Troubleshooting guide

If the game displays a message stating the game is not starting or having issues starting:

  1. Check your internet connection. While the game doesn’t require a high bandwidth connection, it needs an internet connection for the game to start. One way you could check your internet connection is to open a web browser and visit a website such as aec.gov.au.
  2. Check for proxy or firewall issues. A common reason for the game not connecting to the session is issues with a proxy server or firewall.

Check with your IT administrator whether your school uses a proxy or firewall. If it does, you may need to ask aec.democracity.gov.au to be whitelisted or added as an exception. Note that the proxy or firewall may be controlled at a department or regional level.

Game freezing, audio issues (distorted, slow or stuttered), trouble moving around the game space, trouble clicking on objects.

Try the following if any of these issues occur:

  1. Restart the game – try to quit or ‘force quit’ the game and open it again.
  2. Close all other apps or programs – other apps or programs may cause the device to run slowly.
  3. Check that the device meets minimum requirements.
  4. Check that battery is charged. If it’s not fully charged, charge the battery and try again. It is a good idea to fully charge device batteries before starting a session with a class.
  5. If issues persist, note down the below and email Democracitygame@aec.gov.au with your issue.
    • Does the issue occur only on this device or all the devices?
    • Does this happen in a particular part of the game or with a particular character?
    • What was happening at the time of the issue? E.g. was the student trying to move somewhere in the game space? Were they trying to click a particular button?
    • Provide the model of the device, e.g. iPad 6

If your question or issue is not covered, email Democracitygame@aec.gov.au and we will get back to you.
