First parliamentary election is held in NSW

In 1842 New South Wales covered all of eastern Australia, including the areas that are now Victoria and Queensland.
In 1842 two-thirds of the Legislative Council was elected by voters who owned land or paid rent on property. Most men could not vote, and no woman or Indigenous person could vote. The governor or the Colonial Office could veto any laws that were passed.
